It is not likely to help much. From my own experience unless you are linguistically gifted you must learn two languages when you are young.

Being able to communicate well verbally is quite a challenge for many with a second language learned as an adult. Being able to for example write an essay on a book you read in the second language would be an large challenge IMO.

I think these movies where spies can pass themselves off as locals in various languages is probably very rare. You want to be spy how the hell are you going to pick up the local idiomatic expressions and accents.

I spent 2 years studying Spanish from Spain. Upon arriving in Barranquilla, Colombia for a 2 year assignment it took me 3 exhausting months to be able to sit in a meeting and listen to multiple people talking and catch 90%.

2 years later I could write procedures, but my local bi lingual engineer proofreader was very kind with the edits. I am sure after I left the grammar was fully revised.

I dont tire of Elmats English, just his constant pumping of ethanol, his nationalistic fervor, and being an apologist for Iran.
