Well, I don't assume they are stupid. If their goal is to kill Americans, especially diplomats, they know they can do it outside of the embassies and consulates.

They have done that. More than once.


No, you assume our security forces are stupid and ineffectual so if terrorists fail to kill Americans, its because they weren't really trying.

You want to assume they are stupid. That is a very dangerous way to go.

You want to assume they aren't really that dangerous. That's a dangerous and foolish assumption.

No, I think I'm having to point out the obvious to someone who doesn't seem to realize it.

And, despite those attempts, experts feel that the main reason for those bombings was to drag the US into a quagmire in Afghanistan.

They did want us to attack Afghanistan. They figured the attack would be like the Soviet attack and they would defeat us in Afghanistan and the US would fall apart like the Soviet Union did. Osama said this explicitly. It hasn't worked out that way.
