Hi thread,

we've all debated the need for oil independence and as a related topic human impact on climate change. I personally have mostly argued that we need to get more green so we can be energy independent for reasons of national and economic security, with the added bonus of preventing catastrophic climate change.

Wherever you fall on the debate lines, the below url is a good primer. It does a good job of relating climate changes over earth's geological timescale, as well as in more recent times, while also pulling in scientific knowledge of climate impacts from well known cycles caused by earth rotation, sun spots, and volcanic activity. Take a look:
dsc.discovery.com

So my question for the thread: is there anyone here who believes that we should not pull out all the stops to become energy independent? If so, why not? Please address not just climate change arguments, but also those around national and economic security.
