OK Ive never been on the property or seen the boulders so am relying on the info on wsp map and the releases etc. Kmberlites vary considerably in appearance and constituancy. They feel they have identified two different types of boulders. Some are very similiar to the dykes they have already found while the second type seems quite different and is probably from a pipe. The latest train runs to the shore of snap lake.
Theoretically if you plot all the boulders on a map the train should point right back to the source. In some cases companies sample lake bottoms etc to see if they can follow the source along the lake bottom. You can also use underwater cameras or depth sounders to map the lake bottom. WSP may already have done this and identified some targets or you can use really close spaced geophysics.
So they probably have some targets along strike with the train so it could be one hole and you hit. If that doesnt work then you drill a fence or grid of holes along the strike of the train so it could take more holes.
If you look at WSPs map at their web site there is probably more then one source a combination of pipes and dykes.
Anomaly cl186 was found at depth under an altered granite so when they drill no doubt they will be looking for a kimberlite or an altered country rock. If they hit altered rock no doubt they will drill deeper to hit whatever is causing the alteration.
If they have boulders from a pipe then they should be able to find that pipe under the sediments of snap lake. Since WSP and aber have geologists who specialize in kimberlites and have had some experts visit and look at things so I will assume they have a pretty good handle on this.
The theory that all the pipes have erroded away and all your left with is the root zone is a theory and it might be true but...and this is a pretty big but....the pros should be able to tell this from the material they are finding and it didnt happen with any of the other diamond properties in the NWT so chances are it didnt happen here.
The cl186 anomaly and kimberlite breccia is a little different. There it seems that it is pipe material but they havent been able to find where the pipe surfaces. They feel it must have and the vent may be under snap lake as well.
Both aber and wsp are very conservative in the info they release.
So time will tell.
Hope this helps some.
