What other choice was there?

You let Hitler do what he wants until you can get your act together. Look how much destruction the Blitzkriegs did to Britain.........if the US had waited just one more year, Britain would have gone down in flames. Again, Churchill's gambit was very risky......it turned out okay but it could have been very ugly.
