Seems the deal-breaker for McClellan was Plame/Libby trial, when he had undeniable, unspinable facts that proved he'd been sent out to face the press, all of America, and lie.

What do you say after that? He knew that the entire press corps and America knew he'd been lying too. That was when he resigned.
