May 29 (Bloomberg) -- Zinc extended losses after stockpiles
monitored by the London Metal Exchange rose to a 20-month high.
The contract for delivery in three months fell as much as
$54, or 2.6 percent, to $2,066 a metric ton and traded at $2,075
as of 9:10 a.m. local time. Stockpiles climbed 5.8 percent to
143,500 tons, the highest since Sept. 27, 2006.



May 29 (Bloomberg) -- Anglo American Plc's Skorpion mine,
Africa's largest zinc operation, said about half its workers are
on strike for a 17th day after ``high-level'' talks yesterday
failed to resolve a wage dispute.

The mine has the capacity to produce about 150,000 metric
tons of zinc a year. Global output of refined zinc was 11.2
million tons last year.
