A crazy thought:-
Halfscot, perhaps this guy Lee anticipated a bid from AT&T and thought if this happend he may not get the top position to run the combined company (but then again i thought he was a leading candidate or the top job!) and hence a pre-emptive strike by way of an offer to MCI,thinking this will lessen the chance of him loosing control.I guess lot of egos and one-upmanship at play. I know, what I just said dont make any sense, but that is all i could come up with so far.
I certainly hope someone else could come up with something more substantial and believable thoughts. You see, a whole lot of things just dont make sense, for example we have 8 billion co (WCOM) trying to takeover a 22 billion dollar co (MCI),then we got BT who just reduced their bid for MCI, then we got GTE who thinks buying MCI is a good deal, though it will sustantially hurt the balance sheet, and lastly ATT just running around in cirlce with their tail between their legs over there somewhere in a country club in Virginia under the guise of 'closed door Board meeting' etc.In conclusion, I haven't the foggiest!!!!!!!!!
