Obama's Top Gaffes
Raising the dead - is there nothing Obama can't do?
Hattie Garlick writes:
A prize Obama gaffe is provoking titters amongst the blogs today, after his Memorial Day appearance in southern New Mexico.
"On this memorial day", he said, "as our nation honours its unbroken line of fallen heroes - and I see many of them in the audience here today - our sense of patriotism is particularly strong."
'Does Obama see dead people?' wonders Hot Air in mock shock and horror, reminding us that Memorial Day honours dead, not living, veterans of war - unlikely to drag themselves out for a rally at this stage in proceedings, even for Obama.
The prepared statement in Fox's hands showed that the remark was ad-libbed - proving that the usually fluent impromtu speaker is not entirely omnipotent. Neither is it his first gaffe. Here follows a select list of his best - for more visit the Gaffe Machine.
"Over the last 15 months, we've travelled to every corner of the United States. I've now been in 57 states? I think one left to go." Total number of states in the US? Fifty.
Addressing a large crowd in Sioux Falls, South Dakota: "Thank you Sioux City... I said it wrong. I've been in Iowa for too long. I'm sorry."
On Arabic translators: "We only have a certain number of them and if they are all in Iraq, then its harder of us to use them in Afghanistan." What language do they speak in Afghanistan? Largely Pashtu, Dari or Farsi
On why he was trailing Clinton in Kentucky: "Sen. Clinton, I think, is much better known, coming from a nearby state of Arkansas. So It's not suprising that she would have an advantage in some of those states in the middle." Obama is from Illinois. Which borders Kentucky.
"In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died." The actual death toll last May? Twelve.
