I hope your understanding is that supply and demand drive prices.

And, as you say, supply isn't a pure economic issue but is decided by politics. Which makes it a national security issue.

Or if we are truly past 'peak oil' (very possible) then it's a huge economic issue when we are consuming ~25% of the worlds production. Our entire economy runs on oil; it touches literally everything.

Yet many want to wait for the ultimate crisis, so the 'free market' can work it's magic... even though the 'free market' is a complete illusion.
