Bob, re: "Cheers - they have screwed up, screwed themselves, screwed the Republicans and likely have lead the country to a single party landslide. Angy at Bush - and the others in Washington with him - you bet.

How - allowed irrational spending, allowed the border to be wide open in absence of a policy and failed to lead on key economic issues - and therefore has opened the door to undefined "change".
"

I think your list of Bush Admin screwups is a little light.

For the large majority of the country you'd have to add:

Misleading the nation with incomplete or exaggerated assertions on the Iraq war over and over, beginning with wmd arguments and continuing through claims of "dead ender" resistance, a "new Iraqi democracy" and claims of success in the face of failure.

Demonstrated incompetence in everything from Katrina to watch dogging spending in Iraq.

And the failure to conform ideological positions to real world realities, on the foreign policy front and on the domestic/economic front, a corollary to the inability to admit mistakes.

But it goes deeper than that. Americans are slowly realizing that trickle down economics, unregulated markets and more and more power in the hands of the moneyed Republican base is simply not good for them personally.

It was a lot easier to be a popular Republican when you had no power and could potshoot the Democrats than it was when you had the power and your exercise of that power failed to make the everyday lives of average Americans better. Ed
