When Bush supporters can get tickets to be in the crowds Bush drives by before he goes in the secure underground entrance at these events, and the scraggly protesters are kept a mile or often more away, it's not a security issue.

It's not suppressing freedom of speech, either. It's managing the scenario--cherry picking the background be it draperies or faces. You never heard of invitation only parties? Washington and everyone else has them all the time. It's called freedom of association. Unfortunately, not all speech is civil. Virtually nothing that comes from organized protesters is civil. You ban people. The prez bans people. In both cases, they get to do their speaking in another venue.
