You often find extreme personalities leading the way in community outreach and change. I don't fault Obama for working with these people; it's part of the job. I've worked with some obnoxious people on outreach boards but since everyone was working toward the same goal, I didn't disassociate from them. (I didn't go to dinner with them either, though).
And you are doing something you usually decry-- twisting my words and taking something out of context. I didn't say that what he has done with his life was "disgusting". In the context of the paragraph, I was referring to the performance he gave at Trinity, where he knew he was on camera, and he knew he could damage Obama and didn't care, and where his topic was not "community" anything, but a personal attack on Hillary- completely uncalled for, with some nasty racially divisive comments.
It is frustrating and disappointing that this kind of "baggage", as Mary calls it, could hurt Obama so much. It shouldn't, and I think he survived Wright, but people start seeing patterns, and it alarms them. This hurts him.
