Though many people may wish for more effective voices, as I do, let us not forget that in many of these countries religion is often at the service of the government and its rulers use it as an instrument to promote their legitimacy. I'm not talking about other countries. I'm talking about America. And as far as violence against Muslims, I offer my own observations: I have seen none. On the contrary, I was in Washington DC two weeks after 9/11/01. Walking from our hotel to the conference place, we passed a Muslim in traditional dress bowing unmolested towards Mecca on a freeway overpass. When I made a fuel stop in California, the man who kept me waiting in line to pay while he answered phone calls was Muslim. Two Muslims worked on my pickup in Alaska. They did not have a clue on how to fix it. My American response for terrible service -- I do not go back. many of these countries religion is often at the service of the government and its rulers use it as an instrument to promote their legitimacy. I'm afraid we will see this come to our country when seven million becomes seventy million.
