Then there is merit in making the point that the broader welfare of the community might be helped by not attaching to leaders who undermine the group's credibility.

If someone shows up at a local meeting mocking and taunting and insulting me because I have a political difference with him, my inclination to work with him is very, very low.

Rambi could chime in here about the Dallas City Council over the years. There are some Pfleger types there who got lots of attention over the years, but from what I could tell, never achieved diddly for their communities.

The press loved them because they were total clowns half the time.

The idea that a community must be represented by one bombastic figure is rather absurd and dysfunctional, IMHO. If the people feel left out because Pfleger is left out, they should look around for other avenues.
