Of course you can rarely tell. Sometimes by attire. Mostly not.

Some one who was killed in US after 9/11 I believe was in Seattle suburb..The person was actually not a muslim but Sikh but with his turban was an easy target.. some one clearly different..]

There was such an incident in Arizona.
