ANSONIA, Conn. -- Ansonia police said a teenage volunteer firefighter for the city set a house on fire last month because "there hadn't been one lately."

Eighteen-year-old Brian Francione Jr., was arrested Friday at Ansonia High School and charged with first-degree arson, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment, police said.

He is being held on a $500,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned at Derby Superior Court on Monday.

Police Lt. Wayne Williams said Francione set a Martin Terrace house on fire on April 14.

The blaze destroyed an attached garage and a car.

Witnesses told police that Francione said he started the fire because "there hadn't been one lately."

Francione's MySpace page says he's a junior at the high school.
