John- The news leak or rumor that appeared last week has already prompted the institutions to pile into NM. The volume may be tailing off, as the long positions have already been established, the weak hands have bailed out, and they are waiting for the actual news to surface. NM buying MCI? Nothing would surprise me. Actually, I expect NM to launch a hostile bid for either Coke or Intel this afternoon. The news should do good things for NM stock tomorrow. Maybe it won't happen, but I've heard all kinds of rumors. An analyst in St. Louis told me that he expects an announcement of a tender offer for NM shares, either by a group of parties or as part of a merger agreement, before the end of this week. Another possibility is a report of profitable business operations at NM. Who knows? I've heard everything and seen nothing. But something is going on. This week may yet end up on a positive note for ol' NM. T
