Lorne, I agree with you about any country, Christian or not, defending itself against any enemy who would seek its destruction. What I have tried to explain is that there is a difference between a country fighting for its protection and individual Christians in the service of God, fighting with weapons against their persecutors. A Christian ministry and a civil government are simply not the same thing.

First, there is no such thing as a Christian country, including America, in the sense that every citizen living in it is a Christian and that they should thereby have a pacifist government. I never suggested that nor did that notion ever enter my mind. I hope I didn't seem to imply that to the reader, or leave that option open. If so, I didn't word my posts clearly enough.

In fact, my purpose in quoting Romans 13 in the first post was to show that the God Christians believe in wants countries' governments to bear the sword against its enemies. God knows what kind of age we live in: an age of evil oppressors and other such things. So, it doesn't follow that a Christian country should martyr itself in the service of the same God who authorizes it to defend itself.
