UPDATE: Nasdaq Launches Free, Real-Time Quotes On Web, TV
Last update: 6/2/2008 10:23:23 AM (Adds background and financial information.) DOW JONES NEWSWIRES Nasdaq OMX Group Inc.'s (NDAQ) Nasdaq Stock Market is now providing free real-time stock quotes through its Web site and other outlets.
Nasdaq's move is one of the latest efforts to bring down the wall separating investors and exchange data.
"This is an important and in many ways overdue development in the U.S. securities markets," said Executive Vice President Adena Friedman. "With universal access to the Internet and the real-time nature of the Web, investors need real-time data, and now they don't have to pay for it."
Last week, Yahoo Inc. (YHOO) announced plans to provide free, real-time stock quotes from BATS Trading Inc. on its Yahoo Finance site.
The company said its stock-price data were delayed 15 minutes on the Web, but now users will have access to immediate quotes, as well as premarket and after-market trading. Nasdaq will provide its quotes on General Electric Co.'s (GE) CNBC television, Google Inc.'s (GOOG) Google Finance, Xignite and The Wall Street Journal Digital Network, owned by News Corp. (NWS), owner of this newswire.
Nasdaq said it will be charging its partners a maximum of $100,000 a month for the service. Nasdaq posted $66.3 million in pro-forma market-data revenue in the first quarter, totaling 17% of net revenue.
Nasdaq shares recently down 52 cents, or 1.5%, at $34.51.
