LIAR. Carter was only in power for four years and inherited huge war debts and an overboiling Middle East after the Israeli war when the Arabs finally decided to flex their muscles. The Shah of Iran was also toppling and nothing Carter could have done would have saved him.

Despite all this, Carter ushered in great new promising programs, teling us the truth about our need to get off gasoline, starting huge new green energy programs, all of which Reagan scrapped, ushering in the New South where black and white could get along just fine. Then in came the Reagan rightwing and destroyed it all.

Bottomline, nothing Carter did or didn't do hurt our economy. He simply didn't have time to get us out of that deep rut he inherited. And we may be seeingf the same kind of rut now and for many years to come as the Iraq war debt and $4.50 gasoline are just as bad or worse than what Carter inherited.
