Hi Koan,

How well do I remember those books from 35 years ago? Perhaps I will read them again. In my memory, Lisabeta (the bohemian) called Tonio Kroger a "bougeois manquee", a bourgeois on the wrong path who (despite looking for something more) yearned after the blond and blue-eyed normality of well-tended lawns (or was that the Steppenwolf... the wolf of the Steppes who could not fit into conventional society, but neither was he happy) and Siddhartha was an ascetic seeker. None of those roles appealed to me then nor do they now, although maybe I am like Tonio Kroger after all.

As I grew old I saw many people sell out who knew better and that always bothered me.

Would Siddhartha/buddha have been bothered?

But I am watching my spending now for the first time in many years. I see and feel real fear starting to spread.

I agree.
