[Interoperability]

<<<Interoperability is the other benefit of the Alcatel/Amati agreement. The latter shows that both companies are committed to the
support of the interoperability of their DMT solutions. In addition
to the compliance to the ANSI DMT standard, the use of common
patented implementations is further guaranteeing interoperability
between DMT solutions from different sources, a key requirement for
mass deployed technologies.>>>

Considering Alcatel/Mietec is the largest ADSL/DMT vendor in the world, I think it's safe to say Amati's DMT has the market cornered in terms of acceptance and interoperability. This leaves Orckit the only major holdout. Among the second tier ADSL players, I believe Pairgain has plans to license, though I don't think it's final yet. Rumor has it NEC is also licensing, this time for ADSL, but I doubt we'll see press as they don't like PR until they're ready.

For the sake of sanity, I'd not hold my breath on either of these being announced any time soon.

At any rate, glad to see the Mietec announcement.

Cheers!

Pat
