OT: Right or wrong, I assume many of the readers and posters here have been to or lived in some part of Africa. My question is for these people:

When buying a digital camera, is it a potential nightmare to get one that uses a proprietary battery rather than AAs?

I'm really a SLR type, but have to buy a digital camera, a point and shoot one that has some manual settings, since I misplaced my older digital Canon and can no longer waste time looking for the darn thing.

FWIW, I'd probably have to charge whatever battery is used a good portion of the time with some kind of solar device.

The camera is to take pictures of books and things before I move. Since I have to buy one now, I do want to take battery-type into consideration for when I am in NE Africa.
