Is Preparation H The New Club Drug? Cream No Longer Just For Hemorrhoid Relief Created: Wednesday, 04 Jun 2008, 6:53 AM MDT Published reports are saying that clubgoing men are using Preparation H to look ripped and draw the attention of women. (John P. Wise/MyFox)
NEW YORK (MyFoxNational) -- If some young party boys are to be believed, then a medicine used for years to treat hemorrhoids is now being used for a surprising new purpose.
According to a story on FOXNews.com this week, clubgoing men are using Preparation H to pick up women.
The method has been hailed on the Internet and has long been used by body builders, according to the report.
Long Island-based writer and Manhattan club bouncer Rob Fitzgerald interviewed for his blog a young man who claims, "...if you want girls to dance with you, you have to look ripped."
Applying the Preparation H, in the opinion of at least that one clubgoer, makes men look more muscular, though FOX News medical contributor Dr. Marc Siegel disputes such a claim.
"It doesn't even work that well for hemorrhoids," Siegel told FOXNews.com, adding that side effects to Preparation H include rashes or even elevated blood pressure.
There's plenty of reaction to the story on FOXNews.com:
Harry says, "Perhaps these club-dwelling losers could try actually working out to appear more ripped?"
blitzed says, "i can see one of the side effects now: hemorrhoids on your face, stomach, legs..."
Y says, "It’s frightening to think how it was discovered that Preparation-H had drug-like properties when ingested."
former1sg says, "People in the military have been doing this for years to 'beat' the woefully inaccurate bodyfat test ... This has been around for a long time. Funny that the masses are just now discovering it."
g banks says, "I am saddened that people think so little of themselves that they must resort to this ridiculousness for vanity’s sake–"
