By the logic used, the false assertion would be "they lied about a crime". Clearly, there is no evidence of a crime to lie about. So the lying was obviously the crime itself.

If a crime had been alleged, charged or proven, the assertion about lying about the crime would have a basic foundation upon which to build the allegation.
