Please explain
Saying that something is divided, on the conventional level, like you did, implies of necessity, something common, on an ultimate basis. If the something can be divided, it must have been common before it was divided. Actually this phenomenon is co-dependently originated.
Do you mean there is not a common basis
No, I mean there is.
which should be the general welfare of the country - right?
This is a a good example of a common interest, but we have disparate understandings of how to optimize the condition. Therefore to find the common ground you have to reach back further than this. Without proper attention it's easy to just make it up as we go along. But that doesn't always work out so well. We have an ethicology going on. Unskilled actions cause suffering. Acting out of a strong ethical foundation calms the mind. Tranquility leads to happiness of the quiet and peaceful sort. Happiness, leads to concentration, concentration to insight, insight to compassion, compassion to wisdom and so on and so on. An ethical foundation gives rise to skillful actions automatically, or mechanically if you will. The one gives birth to the other, they are dependently originated. It is a natural process of unfolding, you do not have to try and make this happen it just will. Call it your Buddha or Human nature. Something we have in common is that this works the same whoever we are. |
