To all re: CPQs quarterly

I decided to take a look at CPQ's numbers. We do not have all the detail yet but it is possible to dissect their performance to some extent.

They reported gross revenue of 6474 million for the quarter. This includes the Tandem numbers and the numbers from some of their other acquisitions. I tried to subtract out the Tandem revenue and profit from this quarters results to get a better idea about their performance in the PC market. I assumed that Tandems contribution was the same as last quarter. 502 million and the Tandem profit was 43 million. This is probably a good assumption because Tandems performance has been flat for the past 6 years!

I get

Revenue 5972 M
Net Income 519 M
Net Profit Margin 8.7%

This yields quarterly sequential growth numbers as follows:

Q3-97 Q3-96

Revenue 19.2 % 12%

Profit 23.0 % 31%
+ 97M + 83M

So the absolute dollar profit is up about +14M over last year.
The revenue growth rate is also up by 7.2% over last year.
The profit growth rate is down by 9% compared to last year.

The unit growth rate is a whopping 56% over last year reflecting the contribution of the low cost PC to the units. It is important to note that their Net Profit Margin is holding up well!

I can't squeeze much more out the numbers reported so far.

regards,

Jim K.
