Report: Intel fined $25M in South Korea

Intel Corp. was fined about $25 million for alleged unfair trade practices in South Korea, according to a report Thursday.

The Wall Street Journal reported that South Korea's Fair Trade Commission said that from 2002 through 2005 Santa Clara-based Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) offered rebates to Samsung Electronics Co. and Trigem Computer Inc.

To get the rebates, the report said, the firms had to purchase Intel's central processing units instead of ones made by rival company Sunnyvale-based Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NYSE:AMD).
