steve,

McCain selling out on global warming and open borders outweighs his defense position imo.

I hear a lot of conservatives outraged over McCain stance on global warming. I disagree with them. The actions McCain supports make sense even if there is no global warming.

My only disagreement with him is that now, when the oil is expensive, the US should start drilling, whenever it is economical.

We need to get over the gap between now, when alternative sources of energy are miniscule to the future, when alternative energy sources are mainstream with the least damage from shortages and high prices.

Drilling everywhere (including ANWAR) would help up bridge the gap with the least economic pain.

My reason for support of alternative energy sources (nuclear and solar) is that they are clean, non-polluting. I want to breath clean, non-poluted air. I want clean water. I don't want fish in the oceans have high concentrations of mercury.

Cutting down on burning of the fossil fuels will be beneficial mainly from the POV of pollution. Reducing the risk of global warming is a nice side benefit.

Joe
