It is all the same.

As to Reagan's actions and you're continually bringing it up, I would point out that America was branded as a paper tiger NOT by Lebanon but much more recently -- in Somalia.

While Lebanon allowed the seeds of today's brand of terrorism to take hold, America's collapse in Somalia is what invigorated AQ to move forward with taking its war to the United States.

Iran and Sudan were keenly interested in Somalia, since controlling that piece of ground is strategically critical to controlling the Red Sea. Iran was pumping a lot of money into it and was HOPING to draw America into the situation. Bin Laden was organizing the entire operation (yes, in cooperation with Iran and Sudan).

When America bailed in Somalia, it clearly had a huge effect on Bin Laden personally. There was no bin Laden when the Marine Barracks were bombed. There was no figurehead to follow up and continue the fight in an organized manner. When Somalia happened, it was the beginning of bin Laden's moment.
