Prefetching only works for non-random patterns and doesn't Penryn also prefetch when it's at home ? ;-) It also causes worse performance in some cases so it is deliberately switched off in say SpecJBB submissions. Sorry but the 4-11-39 cycles L1/L2/L3 is what it is, an inferior cache structure to Penryn's 3-15 L1/L2 up to 6MB.
