Over drinking and desperation go hand in hand with the after affect of drunken debauchery. Most drunks go from sloshed to stupor and then a futile attempt to remove the stupor with more alcohol the next day. I've seen it up close too often including completely ruining some good friends lives. Judging them harshly is not a good idea. Not much you can do about it except in the moment of their desperation suggest treatment and rehab. Surprisingly a little help can go a long ways. Thanks for your most excellent post.
