FSLR thin film solar will be at grid parity in 2012-2013 if current trends hold, and the rest of the thin film players will follow within 3-5 years. If you factor in the environmental and health costs (external costs) of coal (namely lung and heart disease), wind trumps coal handily and solar is competitive today for southern california.

The volt is already operational, by 2012 there will be a fleet of plug in electric cars whose mpg exceeds 100. Breakthroughs in battery storage research point to exceptionally dense storage within 5-10 years.

The new discoveries in Brazil are promising. They will never be developed and should probably be sold now.

For now, we can ride energy in one final wave up.

As for the clean air act changing the formulation of gasoline, the last I looked at the research, we're actually breaking even in the larger cities by using the special blends, as it is reducing lung and heart disease. Doesn't hold true for rural communities as much, but that's not where the special blends are legislated.
