Gas prices can't go up by much considering it's tripled.

Just because something has tripled does not suggest it can't go up more. And if you add a large tax on it it probably will go up more.

Higher prices push us to become less dependent.

it's likely prices would plummet

Plummeting prices would bring oil use back up.

You rant against high prices, while pushing for policies that will increase prices. Please at least develop some coherent position. It doesn't have to be the same as mine but it should be internally consistent. If you want less CO2, and less dependence on oil imports that push for higher prices. If you want lower prices than life restrictions on oil companies. Pick a goal, and than pick policies that have a chance of achieving your goal.
