There are a lot of people out there that don't think animals and humans can communicate with one another. Mike has never had any formal training. It's odd to say this but he's always known what things mean either by the tone in my voice or the look in my eyes.
From the time Mike came to live with us as a rescue dog from the local SPCA, he's always looked at me as if to say, what do you want me to do. If the door was open, he would wait until I said ok, and he went through the door. If I said stop, he would stop, look back at me and either grunt or groan, his head cocked, his eyes on me. He has never urinated or defecated in the house, he doesn't eat unless I feed him which has made leaving him to go out of town next to impossible. He will simply wait until I get home, then he eats. Mike has run off at least one very undesirable person who tried to make entry into our home a few years back.
I have always told Mike he was my best friend and no matter what happens, I have been the better for knowing him. He's been there through good times and the worst times I have had to face. He's been a valiant protector of home and family but more importantly, he's been a solid friend.
Mike is the most amazing friend I have ever had the privilage to know. He will receive a full funeral when his time comes. He's not happy about that but I told him to get over. |
