No nostalgia for the thirties here tyc, more like concern there could come worse - we're a different society now, softer, coddled, more specialised in talents in ways that may not apply well to a post-cheap-oil world ... the fathers of young men in the thirties had fought the first war, they themselves fought the second, people were much more connected to the land then, they knew stuff that mattered ... now we look around and see we've got a far more developed infrastructure, think we've got it made, great expectations, take cheap oil out of the equation and it doesn't look so hot ... got to start growing food closer to home - how many know how, and have the work ethic to do so? ... seems to me society could devolve very quickly to crime and extremes of socialism, authoritarian systems out of necessity, we're just weaker now, dependent, overall on average, of course some individuals will do well, some always do ... but it's totally important that They get things right with the basis of the economic system, and i think that like DAK says all they're doing is postponing the pain, and in so doing making it inevitably more intense ... political cycles with their election campaigns don't help much in this, issues don't get addressed, nobody wants to apeak the truth because it's deadly for them at the polls
trx.v - that's just amazing, people totally forgot about what they've got here, we're back halfway to the lows ... i'll buy more, that's what |
