6/6/08 update
Stocks shrugged off Thursday's oil price spike, but Wall Street definitely paid attention to the even greater oil price surge on Friday. And when they rang the closing bell for the week, both the Nasdaq Composite Index and the Nasdaq Biotech Index had shed all of their Monday-Thursday gains.
At Friday's close, the NCI was down -6.70% YTD (vs. down -4.89% YTD a week ago), while the NBI was down -2.60% YTD (vs. down -2.04% YTD a week ago). The Contest portfolio median also lost ground, closing the week down -9.68% YTD (vs. down -7.24% YTD a week ago).
At week's end, 8 of the 33 Contest portfolios were in the black YTD with 9 of the portfolios beating the NBI. Although down for the week, GENE's portfolio remained in first place by a wide margin, with a 90.9% YTD gain at Friday's close. Second place ROBERT's portfolio actually moved higher for the week, closing with a 31.7% YTD gain.
Have a wonderful post-primary season weekend folks!
