Alternate energy sources are not something that you can just wave you magic wand and make happen.

For them to be meaningful they have to be be cost effective (which is easier if the price of oil and other fossil fuels is high). Then you need trillions of dollars in investment over decades.

They aren't meaningful in the context of discussing the current gasoline price.
