I hope in some distant year, long after anyone cares, historians will have the opportunity to read the notes from VP Cheney's secretive energy policy meetings during his first term. It would be interesting to learn whether the events that have unfolded during his terms were foreseen, thus enormously enriching many of the participants in those discussions, or whether they were not foreseen - which would be equally troubling. Either way, let's hope that future administrations, of whichever party, are more transparent on such discussions. That's the least we could expect for such a vital component of our economy and security.
