Anyone can criticise any architectural decision, none of this is sacrosanct. You still don't get it do you, Computer Architecture is not Physics or Mathematics, there are no absolute laws you have to obey, it's about applying a model to a set of problems and hoping and calculating your overall model is better than your competitors. The choices and combinations are infinite and radical new models are tried all the time like say Itanium or Niagara.
