Remarkably, only a sentence or two about Iraq appeared in Mr. Obama's AIPAC speech, and advisers say he may visit the country in coming months. That would offer him the opportunity to outline a strategy based on sustaining the dramatic reduction in violence recorded this year. No, the left wouldn't like it, but it would be in keeping with Mr. Obama's pragmatic approach to the rest of the region.
rofl, I think they're right. Oh man, the KosKids will NOT be happy about this one. But they will tell themselves it's just to win the election (they'll be right).
I am coming to the conclusion that Obama does not have a strong political philosophy, apart from the advancement of Obama. Even his default leftism seems like an inherited political morality, doubtless reinforced by his 20 years at Trinity United. Maybe he'll sound like Bill Clinton as he goes along, another new kind of Democrat?
But Bill could pull off this king of thing, because Bill was really sharp and really up on the details. Anytime he spoke on an issue, he was insightful. (That was the most exasperating thing of all about Bill; he had the charm and brains to be a great president, if only he had a decent character).
Obama is essentially clueless, except on legal issues. That makes him terribly gaffe-prone. He says things that he has to retract, or serially sidle away from. Anybody in his position who doesn't know what he believes on all the major issues will be buffeted this way and that by high gales.
Two days ago Obama spoke at AIPAC (well, as usual) and sounded like a Likudnik for the day. Already, he's backing off parts of the speech. I give it two weeks before he's backed off every part of the speech.
How long before it dawns on most people that Obama doesn't know what he's talking about? |
