More than fifty percent of the US population were born since 1972, six years after the Civil Rights Act was passed. That suggests to me that the remaining, less than fifty percent, had better feel "really guilty" about what any ancestors might have done or not done in regard to slavery. Bear in mind, any ancestors that fought for the North during the Civil War do not get credit for their bloodshed.
