MJ, my English ancestors were Primitive Methodists from the Derbyshire area. Recently learned the denomination was at one time referred to as the "Prims." I've reason to believe they participated in an uprising (in early 1800s at Pentrich) against oppressive government, which probably explains their motivation to emigrate to America. At the time, anyone attending services at a church other than the CofE was referred to as a "non-conformist." I've yet to discover the reason the Prims broke away from the original Methodist church.
