Yes, we appear to have dodged a bullet but it was really an eye opener, at least for me. Before the scare I did not even know what a pandemic was, much less know that one had nearly shut down the Western US after WWI. Now have emergency supplies, flu vaccine (Relenza AND Tamiflu), and a lot of knowledge about what to do when it eventually happens. Based on historical cycles we are overdue for a big pandemic, and in today's modern world of instant travel it could easily kill hundreds of millions of people. People need to keep their eyes and ears open. When it happens it is likely to happen very quickly.
