The 2004 speech that got Obama into the spotlight was written by a 24 year old kid named Jon Favreau. The same kid along with two others (all under 30 years old), write Obama's speeches. He does NOTHING without a teleprompter.

In the few instances he has not used a 'prompter -- the debates, for example, he has made huge gaffes. This, of course, is the reason McCain is trying to get him into the Town Hall format (and the reason Obama is running from it). Obama has not written any of his own speeches that I'm aware of, and I find no indication that he has by doing searches.

The near-teenagers who are writing these speeches probably explain why they are long on ridiculous rhetoric and short on details -- these kids have no idea what it takes to implement the crap he spews. But gullible Americans have bought it hook, line and sinker.

Rank amateurs scamming the entire nation with this theme of "change", yet lacking the slightest sense of direction. No shit.

As to the books, we really have no way of knowing who wrote them. That said, writing a couple of bestsellers after being anointed the next Dem. candidate in '04 shouldn't have been much of a challenge.

I'm sure his books are excellent, but honestly, writing a book or two is just one of the things a presidential candidate has to do to sell himself these days. They aren't about big ideas. They're about getting people to "know" you.
