"Kroger already has a smartcard in place that can identify customers -- "

This was well before they had that program.

And it isn't a smart card. Just a barcode. At least around here.

"they would just need to get them to use it up front and either tie it to the shopping cart or put an RFID tag in the card. If you tell shoppers they'll get "special offers and discounts" they'll use it every time."

Well, that is what we pushed. The concept we had was the shopping cart would have a device. It would read their RFID tag, that was my contribution, and combine it with the information in the warehouse. That was similar to what we were already selling to WalMart in their warehouses. Each pallet has a barcode, which is read by the reader on the forklift. So when that pallet is moved to the container, that is automatically recorded. So inventory could be tracked in real time. And that means that reordering could be automated. Which reduced their costs.

harris says he worked in a WalMart warehouse. I don't doubt him. He sees it as just round and round. Which it probably was from his point of view. But a WalMart warehouse these days is a vast and highly tuned machine.

Shall I point out that Sam's and Walmart still uses the 960m? And it hasn't been made since that final order in 2000?

It may say Symbol, but it isn't a Symbol product.
