I grew up in the middle of the largest petrochemical complex in the world. Beaumont was the birthplace of the modern oil industry. That happened on January 10th, 1901. Sure, Drake drilled wells earlier, but oil was a curiosity until Spindletop.

While that is true, it is the unions that have made the auto industry unable to compete in the world markets.
