American Superconductor wins $450M contract Tuesday June 10, 7:50 am ET American Superconductor wins $450M contract to provide electrical systems for wind turbines DEVENS, Mass. (AP) -- American Superconductor Corp., which makes wires used in power lines and motors, said Tuesday it received a $450 million order from Beijing-based Sinovel Wind Corp. to provide core electrical components for wind turbines. Shipments are expected to begin in January and extend through Dec. 2011. American Superconductor said the electrical components delivered under the contract will be used to support more than 10 gigawatts of wind power capacity, nearly double China's total wind power installed base at the end of last year.
