If this is an accurate account of the applicable law, it will be interesting to see how the story plays out.

I know first hand how confusing this is as I was born outside the US to one native US citizen parent and one foreign national parent. I had to satisfy residency requirements in order to affirm my US citizenship (which I did). Although I've spent the vast majority of my life in the US, I'm a dual national and legally hold two passports.
